Do you believe that a short film of 14 minutes duration can leave you longing for more? Can a story be told in such a short span of time? When most the movies don’t even manage to develop a plot in first half an hour, Ahalya gives you a spin chilling story in just 14 minutes. Sheer brilliance!
Director Sujoy Ghosh has created a masterpiece. It’s not every day that get to see a movie that won’t let you take your eyes off from the screen.
Ahalya, a mythological character from the epic Ramayana, was cursed by her husband ‘Maharishi Gautam’. She turned into a stone. Sujoy has taken this piece of fable, given it a modern twist & presented us ‘Ahalya’.
Ahalya, played by Radhika Apte, a seductress is sensuality personified. Radhika as Ahalya is brilliant. Her body language, expressive eyes has given altogether a different dimension to the character. She is inhibited & unapologetic about her sensuality. Unlike the mythological character, this Ahalya seduces the men at whim. She is not cursed but encouraged by her much older husband.
The movie starts with a police investigation. Police inspector, played by Tota Roy Choudhary, comes to investigate a case of missing person. He visits the house of a famous artist, Goutam Sadhu, played by legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee. All the three actors have done an amazing job.
The movie venture into the premises which still remains untapped by Indian Cinema. We don’t have many good movies that fall under the mystery genre. Sujoy Ghosh has mastered the genre. Ahalya is just another gem from his kitty. A mythological tale presented with a modern twist!
Although, a predictable end yet it will keep you at the edge till the last minute. An enjoyable watch for all movie lovers.
If you haven’t watched it you are definitely missing out something. Watch it right here.
