Ramayana , the holy book which is a part of our history & culture , is a world known epic . Most of us have read it in our school text or seen its screen adaptions in form of mythological movies or serial . We know the characters, the events , we curse the cunning Manthra & Keikai, pity Bharat , get overwhelmed by Lakshman’s devotion & enormous powers of Hanumana. We know these stories inside out , every single detail , every single twist & turn. So whats new to unfold ? What new in the Ramayana – The Game Of Life ?
The magnanimous epic like Ramayana has an ocean of knowledge & guidelines that has enlightened millions of lives since ages . The story has been depicted in so many different ways & each time a new ideology , a new way of life is discovered . Different authors & philosophers has deciphered a whole new meaning from the ancient saga . Like wise the author , Shubha Vilas , has interpreted it in a contemporary way that is not only relevant in today’s age but also formulate an instant connect with the modern readers .
Ramayana – The Game Of life
This is the second installment from the ‘Ramanyana’ series . This part quintessentially deals with the life , relationships & its complexities , hardships & peril faced by Rama , Sita & others during on onset of their exile period . Each chapter , each paragraph deals with an obstacle & also suggests pertinent ways to deal with it .
Have you ever been trapped in questions like ” Why do people who love each other suddenly realize that they have nothing in common .” This book beautifully expounds many such question with references from Ramayana & its characters.
” Between two people . the common center has to be selfless love. When this common center is displaced by individual selfish centers, mutual love turns into self-love & lovers into strangers.”
Love & relationships has taken a whole new meaning in today’s context . Rather then soul connection , love has become another name of physical proximity & pleasures. We are deluded & bewildered about the very existence of true love .
” As the distance between two hearts increases, the repulsion between bodies escalates .”
In matter of love , mental proximity is far more requisite than physical proximity . Two people must connect at mental level & surrender to each other for a long lasting relationship . Distances doesn’t change the love between hearts if they are bound by the thread of love . What better example then Laxman & Urmila , who lived apart for 14 long years , yearned for each other yet carried carried out their respective Dharma with tart aplomb
” It is better to be mentally close & physically away than the reverse .”
Destiny plays an important role in defining the life goals & results but one must not totally be depend on destiny alone . Constant handwork , determination & dedication have equally important roles .
” Sometimes the most meticulous of plans fail miserably , and at other times, things work out perfectly even though completely unplanned. How do we explain such occurrences unless destiny is at play ? ”
Ramayana is a grand saga on human relationships . Every aspect of a human relationship is discussed in it . Be it be that of a father , mother , son , brother , husband, wife , friend & even enemy , there are guidelines to oneself under different circumstances. Although Rama was treated as God yet his teachings & conduct were very humane. We can learn compassion , righteousness, kindness & integrity from him.
On Management & Leadership
A good leader doesn’t only find solutions to a problem , he treats the problem as a lesson for future . Ram was a great leader & King . He suggested five management Mantras to Bharat to run the kingdom of Ayodhya in a synchronized way .
Each of the above Mantra is significant even today. One can draw inspiration & solutions from these teachings & successfully apply in one’s professional & personal life. That’s the greatness of our epics. They are timeless & most relevant books of reference on human life & behavior.
Connect with the Youth
The strongest point of the book is its connect with the youth . It doesn’t just talk about ancient saga & its teachings but elaborately discuss it with context to the modern lifestyle . In one of the footnotes , words like Gym , Pub , beauty parlor, dentist find a mention. Such reference brings freshness to the narration . Youth find it interesting & readable . In the bargain absorbs the finer offering of the chronicle at subconscious level . Kudos to the author for skillfully merging the two diverse worlds into one & increasing the mass appeal of the book
The fluidity is disrupted by the footnotes & references . At times they occupy majority of space that the reader has to literally search for the main content . Even the momentum is somewhat moderate . But the excellence of content purge these flaws .
This book is a exceptional example of simplistic writing with high quality contest . The fluidity of writing & seamless weaving of events commend complete attention from the readers . The eloquent narration makes the reading a pleasant experience. The foot notes gives you enough food for thought .
The book is full of references & foot notes each worthy of book mark . They are gems to be pondered upon , learnt & practiced in life. Ramayana – The Game Of life Shattered Dreams makes for a amiable read . Strongly recommended !
