The Indian cinema is going through a transitional phase. In 2018, we have seen a serge of great content on big screen as well as on Tv. The year has given as gems like Andhadhun & Sacred Games. It is refreshing to see that the commercial actors & production house have come up with probably the ‘First mainstream lesbian love story- EK LADKI KO DEKHA TOH AISA LAGA.
We have seen some major duds from the A list stars while small budgeted movies and Netflix series ruled the screen. There has been path breaking roles written, bold & meaningful cinema made and well received by the audience. It clearly shows that the audience have evolved and reject right away what’s not up to the mark. Now the directors and stars can’t serve half baked, poorly made or content-less cinema in name of public demand.
Not so long ago, the big names like Khans, Kapoors & Kumars used to dictate the box office. This year has proved that content is the king, No matter how who stars in the film or whether or not it is backed by a big production house.
We have seen gay & lesbian love stories (Fire) in past but hardly anything noteworthy has been created in mainstream cinema. The so called bold subject like sexuality, Gay or lesbian relationships are royally ignored by our bollywood directors. The time is changing, so is the taste of audience.
Anil Kapor has been a constant player delivery quality content throughout his acting career. Sonam Kapoor ahuja, post Neerja, has shown tremendous growth as an actor. The real life father-daughter duo are playing on screen father daughter in this unconventional love story. Rajkumar Rao is undoubtedly the most promising actor delivering scintillating performances. Juhi Chawla is a breath of fresh air.
