Johnson’s has come up with a new product for pre-teen girls, Shiny drops Kids shampoo. It is designed keeping in mind the pre-teen/tween girls. Nowadays kids shy away from using products that say ‘baby product’. They think they are grown ups. They shouldn’t be using ‘baby products’ anymore. They are not completely wrong!

Baby products are meant for newborns & toddlers who rarely go out. They don’t get exposed to heat, dust, pollution etc like the school going kids do. Besides, they also need products that are less time consuming but give a good result.

Review: Johnson's Shiny Drops Kids Shampoo

My daughter’s experience with Shiny drops kids shampoo

Many girls wanna be Rapunzel. So does my Lil princess who has a fixation for long hair. Although, I discourage the use of any kind of cosmetic products at this stage.BUT I am quite particular about the cleaning product & personal hygiene.  I understand the kids are pretty active. They have many things to do in a single day. Hence they need something that’s handy & doesn’t require a lot of time.

I also prefer products that are gentle on kids skin & hair. I generally prefer to read the list ingredients that goes into making the products & google it. ( A list of ingredients of Shiny drops Kids shampoo is added in the post. You can refer to it 🙂 ). It at least gives me an idea that the chemicals used are not invasive & harmful for kids.

Review: Johnson's Shiny Drops Kids Shampoo

She likes to wash her hair with little help from me. She was pretty excited to see a product, especially for her long hair.

Review: Johnson's Shiny Drops Kids Shampoo

The ‘Before’ picture was clicked right before the hair wash. The ‘After’ picture was clicked after she let her hair air-dry. I simply combed her hair. Nothing else was done with her hair ( hair dryer etc). My daughter has naturally shiny & straight hair ( which I envy :D). But it also gets tangled fast.

After 1st wash only with the shampoo

Baby shampoo usually has conditioning properties. One doesn’t need to use a conditioner after the wash. To check how this product works, we went ahead with the shampoo alone. We used it as the regular shampoo.

I noticed that hair after shampooing was a bit dry.

After 2nd wash with the shampoo & conditioner

In the second wash, we used both the shampoo & conditioner. The result was quite pleasing. Her hair was smooth, shiny & untangled. I didn’t have to struggle with her tresses. We let her hair air-dry. Just a few strokes of wide-toothed brush & it was all set.

Positive points of Shiny drops kids shampoo

Attractive packaging– The target consumer for this product are young girls. The color scheme is predominantly white & pink with floral patterns.  The packaging is developed so as to appeal to the target consumer.

Pleasant fragrance- Just like other Johnson’s products, Shiny drops kids shampoo too has a pleasant fragrance. There is a lot R& D that goes into deciding the right fragrance for a kid’s product. It shouldn’t  be overpowering.

Dermatologically tested & hypoallergic– It is tested to suit tender baby skin & is unlikely to cause allergies.

pH balanced & No more tear formula– Just how a kid’s product should be, Shiny drops kids shampoo is pH balanced. The no more tears formula saves lot of drama in the bathroom 😀

Small quantity required– You just need a little amount of shampoo & conditioner even for the long hair. It leaves hair absolutely cleans & fresh.

Now Some negative points…

The packaging is not kid’s friendly It is hard to open the bottle. I almost broke my nail while trying to open it. Also, as the consistency is thicker, kids tend to squeeze the bottle. Most of the time, you squeeze out more quantity than required.

Suggestion- If the product comes with a pump bottle, it will be far more convenient & economical.

The shampoo leaves the hair a bit dry– After the first wash, the hair is clean but also left a bit dry. You ought to use conditioner after shampoo. The feel is also not smooth.
